Web Cams

I am a virtual tour provider in Beaufort, South Carolina. It has been my experience, and probably other RTV dealers have had the same thing happen, that once you provide a client with a service they then look to you for other services either closely or not-so-closely related.

To my point - One of my existing virtual tour clients has asked me to bid on installing, hosting and servicing exterior webcams of their amenities. Obviously this is something I am very interested in helping them with. This is a great repeat client and we are on site on a monthly or bi-weekly basis already.

I am hoping that another virtual tour dealer out there has come across a similar situation and can point me in the right direction.

Many thanks to you all, and to you - the very best of this new year!

  1. I use a webcam to chat live with my family (I got everyone in my family webcams for Christmas) and it's great. We use Skype to chat online because they offer full screen high speed video for free (otherwise, business class web-chat costs are pretty high for this type of service).

I've done a lot of research on webcam's and I will tell you that I believe Logitech offers the best quality webcams out there today. With emphasis on the Quickcam Pro 9000. It has 2 mega pixels auto focus lens(hard to find, but soon to be the norm), and a built in mic. It's retail value is about $100, but a quick search on bizrate.com will come up with a range of $65-$85, the cheapest price being from Dell.com currently. I also love the intuitive stand that it has on it... it can easily clip onto a laptop or set up on a surface / PC monitor. The Quality is astonishing compared with other webcams I've had.

I've often thought having an "online" open house would be really awesome. A place where a realtor could show the virtual tour, as well as be in the house live to talk to buyers online via Webcam. A multiple webcam system would work too. A wireless laptop could be carried around to show various parts of the home as well (I do this in my own home when talking to family).

I'm not sure what the point of installing a webcam looking at a stagnant amenity would accomplish, that a high quality photo could not. I'd stick to using webcams to show action. Imagine this ad in the paper "Open house Saturday 10-3, or visit us live online at www.123ElmSt.com for our open house webcast."

That would blow people's minds... You'd probably get a ton of free press from it. OK I think I just sold myself on the idea.
